Folsom Bridge Opening - 3/28/09

They finally completed the new bridge at Folsom Lake, now called "Folsom Bridge Crossing." The original Folsom Dam Road was closed after 9/11 due to fear someone would car bomb the dam. So there has been some pretty hefty traffic without the road open. The last weekend in March it finally opened! There was debate to name it after Johnny Cash, because its right next to Folsom Prison, but the city wanted to save that name for something else.

Tim, Grayce, my parents, Aunt Liz, Uncle Rick, and our friend Kallie & her son Colton all hiked over for the opening. It was exciting to see that the lake has finally risen from the winter rain storms and the boat ramp is finally open! Here are some pictures from the very warm Spring day!

Ahh the lake

Uncle Rick telling Tim something interesting about the lake Im sure

Its good to see water in there again!

He's such a cutie!

The Folsom Dam

View from the other side of the bridge - the prison is right next to this and apparently there are really big trout in the water but you're not allowed to fish it because its Folsom Prison property

It was really crowded - there were booths and old cars to look at, but it was really hard to stop and look with the strollers, so we dashed thru pretty quickly

At least I got a picture of one car!

And I just have to throw this one in there - this poor kid is sponsored by a funeral chapel!! Click on the picture to get a larger view.
