Recovering Patient

On Wednesday, Tex got neutered!! Yes, we know he's a year and a half old, and maybe you're thinking "its about time!" But we were holding off for good reasons. 1st, with giant breed dogs, it is recommended to wait until they are over a year old so that they have the proper level of testosterone for the growth plates to come together nicely. 2nd, my dear husband was having a hard time coping with the idea of taking away his dogs manhood. Not only because we would love another Tex one day, but also because the concept of neutering will make any man cringe!

So Tim took him in on Wednesday morning, and after chewing the receptionist out for trying to upsell us on everything, he finally let the leash go and we impatiently awaited the phone call that 'all went well.' And of course, it did! We took him home and before we went to bed, we had to put the cone on his head so he didnt lick his boo boo while we slept :) Here is the picture of him with his 30" cone (that still didnt fit). You can tell he's not very happy about this. He still looks a little groggy in this picture too.

The hardest thing will be keeping him from running around or doing any exercise for a week!!! Not only because I have to walk him outside everytime he goes potty, but also because he is going to be getting in trouble with all this pent up energy!!

Next week, we head to TX for Angie's (Tim's sister) wedding. Pictures and highlights of that to come!! Hope all is well with everyone!

  1. The no spazzing out rule is definitely the hardest. My dog in HS jumped our fence the day after she got spayed - that was a little worrisome. But she was okay - I'm sure Tex will recover, too. ;)
